June 2005
Scott Mathews was recently in Hawthorne, CA with his friend and former Beach Boys collaborator, Brian Wilson for the unavailing of the California Historic Monument to commemorate the Beach Boys and their contribution to music. The ceremony and monument was placed in front of what used to be the Wilson family home, now a freeway embankment. Scott and Brian shared some fond stories of life and loss about Carl and Dennis Wilson during this sentimental day. Just when the tears were beginning to well up in Brian's eyes, Scott Mathews told him there was someone very special there to pay tribute to him and to share in the proceedings. Brian lit up into a huge smile when Scott introduced Bob Flanagan (the leader, falsetto singer and bass player from the Four Freshmen). Brian acknowledged that there would never be a Beach Boys sound without Bob's inspiration. It was genius meets genius in a most touching moment. Following the brief 'hello' the ceremony began and Scott was heard to say "Where is the photographer when you need one?" It was one for the books...
Next month Scott Mathews will be in Fort Wayne, Indiana for a special presentation for Monkey Wings Records. He will be speaking about the current state of the union of the music industry and give plenty of tips and advice. Of course no Scott Mathews presentation is complete without his numerous and humorous stories and anecdotes. If you are anywhere in the vicinity, you won’t want to miss this. Scott Mathews will be working with some Monkey Wings Records bands in the near future. For more information, check out http://www.monkeywings.com/news.html Music production plans for this summer include Scott and family going to New Zealand to record in August. Based in the Aspen-like Queenstown on the South Island, the Mathews' plan on getting some summertime snow skiing in!
