This month started with a bang by hearing some great news regarding Scott's production with a wonderful artist from Iceland, Ingi (see September 2008).
Ingi wrote to Scott; "I got a phone call a couple of days ago from the number one radio station in Iceland asking if I’d be up for introducing each and every song of the album cause they want ‘Human Oddities’ to be the album of the week, which means the whole record is played every day with me introducing each song with a few words. I said ‘hell yeah of course’ and I did it. To me that’s a great feeling, even though it’s just Iceland, just the feeling of getting a phone call from radio 1 and them asking is an honor. They did the same thing with Bjork, sigur ros, etc. so the interest from them was flattering to me. I am grateful to have worked with a genius like you buddy and I am thankful for you seeing something in me that you were diggin', long story short, my time in Tiki with you recording is the highlight of my life. Working with you made me realize that we’re just getting started, I mean it Scott, you obviously know how to get the best out of people, or at least me so I can’t wait to show you the new stuff, but I am committed to get Human Oddities out there. The things I learned in the short time of the recordings are and will always be dear and a big slot in my heart, so thank you for being you and for being so incredibly talented and human towards a little Icelandic boy."
Sweet! Long live Ingi!! The King of Iceland and beyond . . .
Scott began work on a project with multi-platinum artist, the great Sophie B. Hawkins this month. Having been floored by her new songs, he feels the sound and feel should be similar to ‘Dusty in Memphis’ and Aretha Franklin’s first Atlantic release, ‘I Never Loved a Man’. Jerry Wexler’s production on those two classics make for some big shoes to fill but with an artist like Sophie B. Hawkins, it sure helps. This is deep stuff!
Scott took the remaining days of this month to work on extensive A&R. With live showcases stacked up a mile high, Scott stayed busy traveling internationally, searching out the world's best new artists. It will be interesting to see who rises to the top and ends up at TikiTown . . . stay tuned!
